  Professor Nikhil Dhurandhar Becomes Professor and Founding Chair of The Department of Nutritional Sciences at Texas Tech University, Lubbock Top


Professor Nikhil Dhurandhar, an eminent scientist and a member of the JOMR Advisory Expert panel has accepted the position of Professor and Founding Chair of the Department of Nutritional Sciences at Texas Tech University, Lubbock. Prior to this Chair, Dr Dhurandhar held the esteemed John Henry Hernandez Endowed professorship in Health Promotion and Professor, Infection and Obesity Laboratory at Pennington Biomedical Research Centre at Baton Rouge, LA,USA. Professor Dhurandhar's work on the adipogenic effect of the human adenovirus AD-36 or "AD-36' on laboratory animals, and also its association with human obesity. This concept is described as "Infectobesity", which can lead to vaccines for preventing such sub-types of obesity. JOMR conveys best wishes to Prof Dhurandhar in his new position. We look forward to his contribution to research in obesity and metabolic disorders.


  2014 henry hill award to Dr. Mukund chorghade Top


Dr. Mukund Chorghade, receives the 2014 Henry A. Hill Award, for his Meritorious Service to the Northeastern Section of the American Chemical Society (NESACS). Dr. Chorghade's pioneering work on "the chemical liver" for the study of metabolites of new drugs has been well-acclaimed for drug discovery and development. Recently he had organized a meeting at Chicago on "Medicinal Chemistry- A Celebration through Reverse Pharmacology", where Vaidya scientist, Dr. Ashwinikumar Raut gave a keynote address. He is President of Chorghade Enterprises and Chief Scientific Officer, THINQ Pharma and Empiriko. THINQ Pharma has the vision of new drug discovery based on the chemical scaffolds of phytoactives from Ayurveda. Team JOMR would like to take the opportunity to congratulate Dr. Mukund Chorghade.




  Metasurgasia 2014 Top


It was the 1 st Asian BMI-Bariatric & Metabolic Integrated Consensus Summit, that was held at Hotel Hyatt Regency, Mumbai on 19 th -21 st September, 2014. There were live surgeries performed by the expert surgeons. The detailed and well-planned program was highly appreciated by the delegates.

Looking at the great need to enhance communication skills among biomedical fraternity, a workshop on "Bio-Medical Communication Skills: Impact On Services, Education And Research" was organized jointly by Kasturba Health Society - Medical Research Centre and Nanavati Super Speciality Hospital, Mumbai on 27 th and 28 th of September 2014. JOMR was one of the collaborators for the workshop. The workshop was an initiative to make undergraduates, post graduates and the faculty members understand the importance of documenting their observations, for meaningful biomedical research and encourage them to write more and more in peer reviewed national and international journals.
