Dr Ashok D. B. Vaidya, the Chief Editor of JOMR was honored with Lifetime Achievement award at the 3 rd International Congress in Ethnopharmacology, Raipur. The award was presented by the Minister of Agriculture (Chhattisgarh) and Vice-Chancellor Pt. Ravisankar Shukla University [Figure 1].{Figure 1}

In his keynote address Dr Vaidya emphasized the distinct and overlying domain of Reverse Pharmacology (RP) and Ethnopharmacology (EP). He emphasized the need for a close collaboration between both the disciplines for Natural Drug Discovery.

Dr Ashok Vaidya is a physician scientist specialized in Clinical Pharamcology and New Drug Discovery. He has pioneered Clinical Pharmacology in India with his teacher, Prof. U.K. Sheth. He has made significant contribution in new drug discovery of chemical nature and of plant origin. He was merck International Fellow at Yale University and later the head of Clinical Research at CIBA-Geigy.

His interest in ayurveda stands from the family tradition of ayurveda and modern medicine. Along with Vaidya D.S Antarkar he pioneered the new discipline of reverse pharmacology as a path to new drug discovery from natural products. This eventually led to CSIR-NMILTY program and the ICMR advanced centre of RP at Katurba Health Society-Medical Research Centre. He has been a consultant to WHO, CSIR, ICMR, DBT, CCRAS and several industries and research councils. His contribution has been recognized nationally and internationally by the scientific world through more than 200 publications, several excellence awards, orations and Lifetime Achievement Awards.
