An article by Emma Young on 'Little-Known Secrets of Staying Slim' has been reprinted from 'New Scientist' in the Digest. The article summarized important new findings on new measures, besides diet and exercise, which are needed in obesity management. It is interesting to note that Professor Nikhil Dhurandhar's research on Adenovirus 36 (Ad-36) has been covered in the article. Dr. Dhurandhar initiated his research on Ad-36 in India and extended the work at Pennington Biomedical Research Centre in the US. He showed that children with the antibodies to Ad-36 virus show significant adiposity and weigh on an average 23kg more than the children who do not have the antibodies. Dr. Nikhil Dhurandhar, currently the Editor of the International Journal of Obesity, is also on our Advisory Expert Panel of JOMR and a leader of AIAARO. We note with pride that Dr. Dhurandhar's research has become an important piece of information for prevention of obesity, even for the public.
