The conference was held in the beautiful cozy town of Bandung surrounded by hills and mountains. The 7 th - Asia Oceania Conference of Obesity - AOCO 2013 was held from 31 st October-2 nd November 2013. It was a great opportunity to represent India and All India Association for Advancing Research in Obesity (AIAARO) and as member of the International Advisory Board of the event and also as a invited speaker. The conference was hosted by 'Indonesia Society for the Studies of Obesity' - (ISSO), in collaboration with the 'Faculty of Medicine Universitas Padjadjaran' and supported by 'Asia Oceania Association for the Studies of Obesity.'- (AOASO). The 12 countries that form 'AOASO' are: (1) Japan (2) Korea (3) Taiwan (4) Malaysia (5) Indonesia (6) Singapore (7) Australia (8) New Zealand (9) Philippines (10) India (11) Thailand and (12) Hong Kong.

The Theme of the Conference was 'The Holistic Approach of Obesity and Related Diseases in the Asia - Oceania Perspective - Insights in Local Resources for Management of Obesity and Related Diseases.' The event was smartly organized and the first impact was felt because the registrations were computerized. There were separate counters for the faculty. The facilities for the speaker lounge were arranged with good ambience. The sizeable delegation of 600 members from all over Indonesia and neighboring countries attended the conference. There were experts from other distant countries. I was very impressed by the modesty and hospitality at the conference.

The Chairman of the Organizing committee, Dr. Gaga Irawan Nugraha and the President of ISSO Dr. Aris Wibudhi had put in put great efforts in making the event a great success. The emphasis was on the management of obesity through aholistic approach. The latter would cover promotive, preventive, and curative modalities which would involve experts from different domains of government, industry, academia and practice. The need to have a collective endeavor by stakeholders who care about obesity and related diseases was stressed.

The speakers, from different Asian countries, contributed significantly to the theme, behavioral counseling, body fat mass and risk of chronic diseases, how inadequate sleep can lead to weight gain, and many such topics were included. The programme was enriched with their expert knowledge and clinical insights. Overall there was a good audience participation for both the oral and poster presentations. The time management at the conference was superbly addressed to. The opening ceremony as well as the dance performance was conducted in a traditional way by the local Indonesians, was an amazing experience.

Presentations given by Dr. Ian Caterson on Sleep Apnea, Indonesia Cohort Growth Study - Malnutrition from Infant Development to Chronic Diseases in Adolescents by Dr. Gaga Irawan Nugraha, Talk by RanaIzhar Rahmat on Medical Fitness Program Combined with HCG Therapy for Weight Loss, Impact of Obesity on Vascular Diseases by Dr. Widjaja L and study presented on Hormonal Aspect of Hunger and Satiety by Dr. Aris Wibudi, Trend of Non Alcoholic Steatosis Hepatitis in Relation to Obesity by Rosa Allyn G Sy were the highlights of the conference.

The task assigned to me, to conduct a Yoga session on 'Essence of Life - Mind and Body Workout'. This early morning experience on the terrace, with the pleasant breeze, chirping of birds and chanting of mantras provided a holistic effect to the participants. The chanting of mantras was a trans-religious rhythm that was appreciated by all. The popularity of yoga in the West is significantly more than in the countries of its origin. There is a need to integrate yoga in the management of obesity.

The important decisions taken at the'AOASO' Governing Council meeting were, that the term of the office bearers be maintained to 4 years, second, there were suggestions to hold AOCO every fourth year for which objections were raised and to continue the pattern of biennial conference. Dr. Kazuwa Nakao from Japan presented and proposed for the 8 TH AOCO be held in Japan which was accepted and cheered by all, certain issues related to the official journal of obesity were also discussed in the meeting .

The respective representatives of the twelve countries and the President of AOASO and of Taiwan Medical Association for the Study of Obesity (TMASO) - Prof. Kuo-Chin Huang MD, PhD expressed their pleasure that there was a representation from India too. During the 6 th AOCO in Philippines the absence of Indian representative was regretted. The matters regarding the progress of the AOASO discussed plans to include China and Russia and to improve the financial status of the organization. It was a pleasure to meet the office bearers of AOASO. Some of them expressed their appreciation about the 5 th -AOCO 2009 in Mumbai, India that AIAARO had successfully hosted, with the leadership of Dr. H Chandalia and Dr. Ramen Goel. I presented copy of the Souvenir and Abstracts of 5 th AOCO to the Gen Sec Dr. Kyoung Kin Kom for record keeping. The 8 th AOCO 2015 is scheduled to be held in Nagoya - Japan [Figure 1], [Figure 2].
