Obesity has traditionally been considered as a disease of affluence. A wealth of data indicates that Asian Indian people have abdominal obesity and insulin resistance and develop glucose intolerance more often. The prevalence of obesity is higher in migrant Asian Indian people when compared with other ethnic groups. Contribution of dietary practices and life-style factors are crucial, making incidence and prevalence of obesity significantly more in the urban population.

All India Association for Advancing Research in Obesity (AIAARO) is one of the largest associations in Asia in the field of obesity. It has more than 500 members which consist of obesity surgeons, general surgeons, diabetologists, physicians, family physicians, dieticians, health educators and other paramedics.

As the Hon. Secretary of AIAARO and one of the Editorial Board members, I am very glad to launch the Journal of Obesity and Metabolic Research (JOMR) in front of you. I am sure you will like the content of the journal and it will be helpful to you in your day-to-day practice. It will comprise of many research articles and review articles that will be peer reviewed by experienced editors.

On behalf of all members of AIAARO, I am thankful to Dr. Vinod Dhurandhar (Founder President of AIAARO), Dr. Shashank Joshi (Immediate Past President), Dr. Pallavi Patankar (President), Dr. Ashok Vaidya (Chief Editor), Dr. Ramen Goel (Co-chief Editor) and other Editorial Board members for their equivalent efforts in bringing out the JOMR.

I would also like to request all members of AIAARO to send their research articles in the field of obesity to get them published in the journal.

Let's join together to fight against the dreaded disease, Obesity
